Norwood Junior High is a typical school – a diverse ethnic and socioeconomic student body with administrators and teachers working hard to ensure that all students have the support and resources they need to achieve success academically and in life. The staff at Norwood has recognized the important role character education plays in creating a safe and secure school environment that is conducive to learning. Because of this, Norwood implemented a program they call “Operation Good Character” several years ago.
“We are at the bottom…AT THE BOTTOM.” Those are the words Robbie Gillis, principal at Lincoln Elementary spoke in 2005. Yet, in February 2009 the National Association of State Title I Directors honored Lincoln as a Distinguished School for exceptional student performance for two or more consecutive years.
